Diego Vera
Diego is 18 years old and was born in Asuncion. He started harp lessons
under Enrique Samaniego, Diosnel Guerrero, Feliciano Peralta, Papi
Galan, Heriberto Leguizamon and Dionisio Arzamendia. He is currently
studying music theory and interpretation at the Conservatorio Nacional
de Musica del Paraguay, in Asuncion.
He has played in Brazil and Argentina on several occasions, and was member
of the Paraguayan Culture Delegation that participated in the opening
ceremony of the 2002 World Cup in Korea. Later playing in several cities
in that country and in Taiwan.
Diego has won several important prizes at music festivals in his country,
including the prestigious Festival del Lago Ypacarai and was finalist
at the National Harp Festival in 2001.
Mercedes Espinola
Mercedes is 23 and started playing the harp at the age of 9. She entered
the Conservatorio Nacional de Musica del Paraguay, in Asuncion in 1995
and graduated as harp teacher in 2002.
She participated in many festivals in Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil
winning prizes on several occasions including the Festival International
de Takuaree in 1995 and the Festival Rochas del Arpa in 1997.
Her talent, however, is not restricted to music, next year she will be
finishing an Honour Degree in Biology.
Kike Pedersen
Kike was born in Villa Florida, Misiones, Paraguay and is now 19 years
old. At the age of 8 he moved to Asuncion with his family. He started
studying theharp at the age of 13 with his father Cristobal, later
taking formal lessons with Prof. Marciano Mereles, in Luque.
He soon developed a very personal style and a vast repertoire. He recorded
his first album at the age of 14, entitled "Melodias Paraguayas
en Arpa", the first of 6 CD's produced to date. The last one includes
4 of his own compositions.
At 15 he was chosen as the Harp Player of the year by the Ministry of
Culture and was part of the Paraguayan delegation to the International
Youth Festival of Dance and Music celebrated in Israel in 2000. He participated
in the Annual Folkloric Festival in Ituzaingo, Argentina in 1999 and
more recently in the Festival del Pantanal in Cuiaba, Brazil.
He has been to England twice, in 2001 and 2002 as guest of the Northborough
Harp Festival and has given concerts in Stamford, Leeds, Newcastle and
Epsom.
There are no notes with this CD apart from the above short biographies written in 2003.
