Fraya
Thomsen
Scottish Harp
Performer,
composer and teacher Fraya Thomsen's enthusiasm for the Scottish
small harp was first fuelled during attendance at the Feis Rois.
She went on to graduate with honours from the Royal Conservatoire
of Scotland in Glasgow and performing with Fiona Hunter and Cloud
9 before starting musical duo The Duplets with Gillian Fleetwood. Fraya
is presently working as musician in residence with the Feis Rois
where she is taking Scottish music making to community groups
throughout the Highlands. In tandem to this, her creative development
includes work on a new band, album and music book which showcase
her compositions. Fraya’s music has taken her to such places
as Europe, Nova Scotia, USA and Mumbai, and she has recorded
tutorial material for Learning Teaching Scotland and Taigh Na
Teud. Along side composing for a short film “The Worm Inside” her
solo commissions include Distil Scotland and she has been composer-in-residence
for The Ceol Mor Big Band.
