About this work & Performance Notes

Rondolino

There are three parts as follows::-

Harp 1
Harp 2
Optional Extra Simplified Harmony

I’ve presented this as a duet, but I have performed it with various groups of different sizes and mixed abilities. Anyone who doesn’t feel they can manage everything can just join in with the Rondo Theme whenever it appears and play the harmony in the Interludes - or they could take the harmony throughout.

The Rondo and Interlude harmonies are consistent throughout the piece, apart from in the final Rondo section which is slightly extended. As Harp 2 plays the Rondo harmony at the end, anyone wanting to play just harmony throughout would find all the material they needed by picking selectively from the Harp 2 part. Anyone wanting to play the Rondo theme and harmony in all the Interludes would find everything they needed in the Harp 1 part.

To provide greater flexibility, I’ve included not just the two main harp parts but also a separate insert with a simplified harmony for players with less experience.

The piece isn’t particularly difficult, but it does romp along quite fast, and the fingering I’ve suggested (indicated by tails up for right hand and tails down for left, where relevant) does keep both hands in play and facilitate the appropriate nimbleness.
