Apunte
Betico APUNTE BETICO, winning Harp Solo of the 1952 NCHA Award, was
written for LUISA PEQUENO, First Harpist of the National Orchestra,
in Madrid. This delightful composition is a rhythmic and colorful
musical sketch (Apunte) depicting a section of Southern Spain
near the Betico River. Playing time totals about four minutes,
and it may be termed an easy piece to play, because it “fits
the hand so well," and so generously rewards a little effort. |

THE NORTHERN CALIFORNIA HARPISTS’ ASSOCIATION, in order to stimulate interest in composing for the harp, and to increase harp literature, established, in 1949, a yearly Competition and Award for harp music. In support of this venture, the publication, HARP NEWS was organized. Both projects have flourished and gained world-wide recognition. The Association is proud and happy to make available APUNTE BETICO, their first publication of an Award winner.
