Sleeve Notes
Meinir Heulyn is one of Wales' most proficient and talented harpists. After graduating from the University of Wales, Cardiff, she went on to study at the Conservatorio in Genova. She was the principal harpist with the Orchestra of the Welsh National Opera for thirty years. Now she is the co-ordinator of the Harp Department at the Welsh College of Music and Drama, Cardiff, and she is also busy performing throughout Wales and beyond as a soloist and with orchestras, opera companies and chamber groups. She has played with several of the world's foremost classical performers, including Bryn Terfel, José Carreras, Luciano Pavarotti and Kiri Te Kanawa, and her solo repertoire encompasses a wide spectrum from traditional to jazz, pop and classical. She has recorded extensively in her role as an orchestral harpist and as an accompanist, and has also recorded three CDs of harp duets with Elinor Bennett. Meinir has chosen to return to her roots in this, her first solo CD. Here is a collection of some of Wales' most well known folk songs skilfully arranged for both pedal and Celtic harp. These arrangements can be found in Meinir's publications, namely Telynor Llys a Chastell (published by 'Adlais'), Famous Music for the Harp Vol. 1 - Traditional Tunes, Sain Y Werin (with CD), and her latest publication, Gwledd Geltaidd (all three published by 'Alaw').

Born in Ceredigion, Meinir Heulyn started playing the harp at the age of ten. After graduating from University College, Cardiff she continued her studies at the Genova Conservatorio. Since 1972 she has held the post of principal harp with the Orchestra of Welsh National Opera, with whom she has both performed and recorded extensively. She provided solo accompaniment to both Charlotte Church and Bryn Terfel on their best-selling albums.

Acknowledged as one of Wales’ foremost harp teachers, Meinir is co-founder of Telynau Morgannwg (The Glanmorgan Harp Guild) and Coleg Telyn Cymru (The Welsh Harp College), whose courses attract students and teachers from around the world. In 1997, she was appointed Co-coordinator of Harp Studies at the Welsh College of Music and Drama, Cardiff, now the fastest developing harp department in Britain.

Meinir pursues a busy solo career, appearing regularly with leading British Orchestras and opera companies, as well as numerous chamber ensembles.

Her speciality is the traditional music of Wales, which she has arranged, recorded and published extensively.
