This music was inspired by the Princess Gwenllian, daughter of the last native Prince of Wales. Llwelyn ap Gruffydd and Eleanor de Montfort, his wife. Gwenllian was born in 1282 at Abergwyngrgyn on the shore of the Menai Straits. At the command of Edward I she was taken as a baby to the Gilbertine Priory of Semprinhgam in Lincolnshire where she remained until her death in 1337. |
