Classics on Request - Volume 1
arranged for Lever Harp
Barbara Brundage
Preface
These are pieces that every harpist who performs in public will sooner or later be asked to play. For years I resisted playing jobs on a lever harp because I was sure that I couldn't play enough of the repertoire that my pedal harp customers tended to request. Finally I decided to sit down and see what I could do, and I was surprised at how many of the standard classics are manageable on a lever harp.
If you aren't used to making lever changes while you play it probably will take some practice to feel comfortable with everything in this book, but it's well worth investing the time in developing your lever technique. Because lever harps vary so much, you may find it works better for you to adjust where you make some of the lever changes. Experiment to see what you feel most comfortable with, and have fun playing the classics!
Barbara Brundage
A note on tuning:
These pieces were arranged for a full-range lever harp tuned in E-flat. However, except for the one E-flat in measure 29 of "Musetta's Waltz", they are all playable as is on a harp tuned in E Harpists who tune in C can play everything without changes except "Musetta's Waltz" and the "Meditation from Thais.'"
