George Friedrich Handel (1685–1759) made symbolic use of the harp, as an instrument capable of stirring great emotion. In 1720, he published a collection of eight Suites de pièces pour clavecin – suites of pieces for harpsichord. The seventh suite, in G minor, HWV 432, ends with the famous Passacaille. Around 1909, Madame Tiny Béon transposed the Passacaille for harp, a fine example of the inclusion of Baroque pieces in the solo harp repertoire from the early 20th century onwards. Historical introduction in French and English by the harpist Françoise de Maubus. – New 2024 engraving | ||
