Enrique
Granados Born in Lérida, Spain in 1867, Enrique Granados first studied the piano and composition in Barcelona with Francisco Jurnet and Joan Baptista Pujol. In 1887 he went to Paris where he studied privately with Charles-Wilfrid de Bériot and Felip Pedrell. Granado returned to Barcelona in 1889. He won distinction as a pianist and popularity in Spain with his contributions to the zarzuela. He drowned in the English Channel trying to save his wife after the passenger boat on which he was returning to Europe on was torpedoed by a German submarine. |
