“But what happens THEN?!?!” is the question composer Deborah
Henson-Conant kept asking. And she finally decided to get some answers!
That’s why she wrote “The Frog Princess.”
“Sometimes you just need to WRITE the stories you want to hear," says Deborah, "and I wanted to know what it would feel like to be a girl whose father had actually turned into a frog!”
So meet Amphibia, daughter of the Frog Prince. She’s about to take
over her father’s kingdom. It’s the one thing she really
wants to do – and it’s the one thing she’s most afraid
of! She’s afraid that the minute she puts the crown on her head,
she’ll turn into a frog, just like her father did.
It doesn’t help that Amphibia has an evil governess who thinks that girls should be seen and not heard; it doesn’t help that Amphibia’s only friends are the the wisecracking fool – and the frogs in the pond! It doesn’t help that she thinks she LOOKS like a frog!
“The Frog Princess” is about facing the fears of who we are
inside. It’s about romance, desire, the power of laughter (and
crying, too!), and about overcoming the fear of humiliation.
So grab ahold of your inner frog and join in singing “Ribbity Bibbity
Bebop” in"The Frog Princess."
