"Tha Sinn a' Falbh" ("We are going") is a very beautiful song from the Outer Hebrides. It was composed by a soldier leaving his country to fight in the Napoleonic wars. This is followed by three jigs learnt from the Scottish members of the Breton-Scottish band Snap Chouchenn!

3-5. Suite de l'Aven

The "old land of my fathers" is located for me in the Aven area, a small part of Brittany. The music from there is sadly played very little on the harp. This is a three-part suite: gavotte, bal and jabadao.

7. En Aval Oranj
Mar fal d'oh hui men diméein

Two very beautiful slow airs from the Vannes area. "En Aval Oranj" ("The Orange Apple") is a story of a forbidden love. The young man finally becomes a priest and the maid decides to be a nun. "Mar fal d'oh hui men diméein" ("If you want to get me married") is a dialogue between a mother and her daughter. The latter ponders the merits and defects of various tradesmen and finally decides she will marry either a marquess or a beautiful young man.

A winter Sunday, grey and sad... what is more rejoicing than a friendly visit or a bit of sunshine? Three hornpipes which bring back joy and happiness!

9. La Complainte de saint Alexis
Ronds de Saint-Vincent

This is a set of tunes from the eastern part of Brittany. "La Complainte de Saint Alexis" ("Saint Alexis's Lament") is the story of a man who leaves on his wedding night for far-away countries. He returns home a few years later as a beggar. Despite the orders of the master of the house (who didn't recognise his son) to treat this poor soul well, the servants make him live under the stairs where he stays for many long years. Shortly after describing his life in a letter to his wife, Alexis dies. This lament is followed by four "ronds de Saint-Vincent".

Arist Information

Anne Postic
Anne discovered the harp in 1990 in Douarnenez. She continued to study music in Lorient and then in Quimper where she obtained her degree in traditional music in 2003. Throughout this time, she studied with harpists from Brittany, Ireland, Scotland, and the United States. Anne played for a while with the Breton choir Kanerien Sant Meryn, bands Snap Chouchenn and Lirzhin, the story-teller Angele Jacq, and the poet Louis Bertholom. Out of curiosity, she played the classical harp and the wire-strung harp for a while. She also explored various types of music, from classical to modern, but she has a strong preference for traditional music, which is the style of music she feels most at home with. Over the last fifteen years, Anne has had meetings, exchanges and friendships on either side of the Channel. Crossing the channel has become a vital need for her. But her travels are also musical, and here is an invitation to share them. Anne Postic was born in Landerneau in 1983. In April 1999, she won the first prize for lever harp at the Kan ar Bobl in Pontivy. In February 2000, she won the first prize in the highest category of the international competition UFAM in Paris. In May 2004, she won the second prize of the first Jakez François International Lever Harp Competition in Nantes. In October 2004, she interpreted "Telenn", piece by the composer Pierick Houdy, for the CD Anthologie de la Harpe Celtique released by Coop Breizh.
